about

After having sat far too long as demo's I've finally got around to finishing this piece of work and including some other songs that were recorded and released but never finished until now.

J Minagwa is the on going story of "J Rock" and his Dingy Tunes.

In this episode J Rock has begun visibly losing his hair and is having a midlife crisis in his early/mid 20's.
Having listened to a famous record by a famous artist he hears the line "maybe you'll return to Minagwa, you could go unnoticed without a trace".
J Rock grabs the nearest atlas and looks for Minagwa but can't find it.
So he decides that if he changes his name to "Minagwa" then perhaps he will go with his growing baldness unnoticed and people will identify him as a man with hair even if he doesn't have any because that's how he wants to be identified - as a man with long hair (even if he is bald).

And so he starts a new episode as J Minagwa.

Below is a little back story to the "demos" included here.

In 1997 after having bought equipment to record at home the previous year I had to sell my 8 track and studio to keep my car on the road.
A couple of years and a few guitars later I bought my first Les Paul and SG, both Gibson and realised I'd been playing the wrong guitars after having used a Telecaster pretty much continuously for a couple years.
I had just released Mile Wide Spaces, one of my independently released albums by my then band Jeg in 1999.
When I started using Gibson my guitar playing made sense and the stuff I had been doing over the last couple of years from 97 to 00 became stale.
My relationship with the SG was short (I sold it so I could go to Paris to see Iron Maiden on the Brave New World tour, my heroes were back!)
I never recorded anything official with it, but there is some magic in these little recordings which i made with the help of a porta studio by Tascam which i borrowed from Neb at the time which was either Lanark Grammar property or Universal Connections property.

This album is like forgotten songs and demo's for Animated Pill.
Although some of the songs here are better than what was officially recorded.
Of all the stuff I have salvaged from tape, I think this little selection of songs has something really deeply ingrained in it that is a part of me.
what's more important is that some of the lyrics were never actually written. They were done on the spot.
